About this blog

This blog will post the last words of criminals executed in the United States, starting with Texas, the state with the highest annual number of executions.

Last words of contemporary offenders will be presented as they are posted to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website. In addition, the blog will post, daily, the last words of offenders executed in Texas chronologically beginning with the first execution following the re-institution of the death penalty in the United States in 1976.

When the list of the executed in Texas has been exhausted, we will move on to other capital punishment states, as information allows. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is extremely open, comparatively, and provides a great deal of information about the execution process and offenders, along with their last words, if any. All of that information is available here.

This blog is non-partisan, non-political, and advocates no stance on the death penalty as a tool in criminal justice. We are posting these lost words as a matter of interest to the curious.
